About Ben
Ben likes to relax by reading; putting together jigsaw puzzles; cooking; collecting anything classic Disney, especially Uncle Scrooge and the Duck family; and rooting for his BYU Cougars. He also loves baseball, a good Dad joke, and he’s been known to play Santa Claus.
He began his dream job, that became his career, with the Boy Scouts of America in 1997. He discovered it was his dream job after serving as a volunteer Cub Scout leader for five years. He retired in September 2018 after 21 years of service to the leaders and youth of the Utah National Parks Council. In 2000, Ben became involved with the Utah County Republican Party. He was tired of sitting on the sidelines complaining about current political situations. He decided to get off his rear end and try to make a difference. He’s been working to make a difference ever since. |
Ben was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. At 16, he became a Republican. After high school, he attended Mt. Hood Community College where he earned his associate degree in Radio Broadcasting with an emphasis in Journalism.
In 1974, Ben moved to Provo, Utah to study at BYU. He never left Provo. Ben met his wife, Debbie, at BYU and they’ve been married for 43 years and counting. They have three children and two grandchildren. Ben’s first two elected positions were precinct chair and county delegate. He was then recruited to run for Legislative District 64 Vice Chair and won. He has since served as the LD64 Chair; UCRP Steering Committee PR/Media Officer; State Delegate; and UCRP Nominating Convention Committee Chair.
In November 2020, Ben was hospitalized for three weeks with Covid, in the ICU for the first 10 days. While recovering at home, he was motivated to become even more involved in both the Utah County Republican Party and the Utah Republican Party. In 2022, he served as the UCRP Nominating Convention Committee Chair overseeing all subcommittee chairs. He is currently a member of the UTGOP State Central Committee; UCRP Executive Committee; UCRP Central Committee; Chair of the UCRP Constitution and Bylaws Committee; State Delegate; County Delegate; and LD62 Chair. Ben has worked hard to make a difference. He is prepared to work hard for you as your next Utah County Republican Party Chair. Vote Ben for Chair. |
